Finish the job, DOT. NOW.
The Riverside Viaduct construction is abandoned and DOT is ghosting Washington Heights. We are an organization of residents demanding action and accountability on this unsafe and unacceptable situation.
In spring 2019, the NYC Department of Transportation hired the contractor Judlau to perform restoration work on the Riverside Drive Viaduct, a critical piece of street infrastructure in upper Manhattan. Judlau said they’d finish the job by summer 2022.
They did not.
Fast-forward to 2026. The project is now four years behind schedule and Judlau has walked off the job, abandoning a neighborhood blighted with concrete barriers, closed sidewalks, construction debris, and residential buildings cut-off from the street and emergency services.
Community leaders have demanded answers and action on this stalled project. In response, we’ve had only deafening silence from Judlau and DOT.
Can you imagine this on the Upper West Side? Park Slope? Seven years of disruption, unsafe conditions, and finally, total abandonment?
Neither can we.
So we’re fighting hard for our community. And things are finally starting to happen. Elected leaders are listening. City agencies are listening. Local journalists are listening.
We believe we can win this fight for safety, quality of life, and accountability. If you’d like to help, please contact us.
Safety
If there’s a fire, street closures and barriers will delay FDNY access to hydrants and residential buildings.
Quality of Life
Mountains of trash. Rat colonies. Closed sidewalks. Dangerous crosswalks. Not acceptable.
Accountability
City agencies and elected leaders serve the people, not the contractors they hire.
