Yesterday, members of the Riverside Viaduct Rescue Committee and other affected residents spoke at a City Council Oversight Hearing; others submitted written testimony. It was an important opportunity to have our voices heard by the people with the power to do something about this situation.
People spoke about the serious medical consequences of EMS delay, the abandoned streets and sidewalks, the accessibility and mobility issues for seniors, and more.
One oversight hearing won’t fix the situation on the viaduct. But it’s the first time that the everyday New Yorkers living with this unacceptable situation have been able to speak to their elected leaders directly in a public forum. Let’s hope it’s just the start of more.
